Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has returned, in the form of a brand new trailer.
Sony has shared a new look at the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, with Tom Holland suiting up as the titular Marvel webslinger. Robert Downey Jr. and Marisa Tomei are reprising their roles as Tony Stark and Aunt May, respectively, and the cast also includes Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Donald Glover, and Tony Revolori.
The new trailer also gives us a good look at Michael Keaton’s villainous Vulture, a.k.a. blue-collar salvage worker Adrian Toomes. Earlier this week, Keaton spoke to USA Today about his winged wrongdoer, describing him as a scavenger who helps clean up after superhero battles and who uses leftover alien tech to build advanced weapons.
Unlike Marvel’s previous big-screen baddies — which include homicidal robots, an Asgardian god, and a computerized Toby Jones — Toomes is an average New Yorker. When he finds his livelihood threatened by Tony Stark, he decides to put his technological skills to nefarious purposes, repositioning himself as “the dark Tony Stark.” (Bokeem Woodbine and Michael Chernus play his crew members, the Shocker and the Tinkerer.)
“The rich and the powerful, like Stark? They don’t care about us,” he says in the new trailer, and later warns, “Don’t mess with me, because I will kill you and everybody you love.”
“Some people see themselves as victims — he sees himself a little bit like that,” Keaton told USA Today. “He probably would have a strong argument that he never got a fair shot — a lot of ‘Why not me? Where’s mine?’”
Jon Watts is directing Homecoming, which is slated to hit theaters on July 7.
